Although the majority of work at
beyond…is focused on consultancy, research/evaluation and training, Kathleen maintains
a consistent and small private therapy practice within the company. Prior to commencing private
family therapy practice in 1997, Kathleen was Senior Family Therapist for the Southern CAMHS
Murray Mallee team from 1994 to 1997 (South Australia), and a therapist with Head Start early
childhood programs in Los Angeles during 1993-1994.
Together with her earlier work as a speech-language pathologist and family therapist, this
gave her a solid grounding in a broad range of issues faced by young people and their
families/significant others. In particular, she has developed strong skills in working
therapeutically with issues of abuse, trauma, grief, depression, suicide risk, eating
problems and the effects of long-term health problems.
Kathleen has regularly taught and presented on her therapeutic work. She taught "family therapy" and "therapeutic work with children and young people" at Flinders University from 1995 to 1999. She also taught the narrative therapy component of the Southern CAMHS therapy training program from 1995 to 1998, and again when it was re-established in 2003 and 2004.Kathleen has regularly presented on family and narrative therapy work at national and international conferences since 1992. She has also published articles in national and international family and narrative therapy journals, and chapters in therapy books since 1991, with 19 articles and 4 book chapters to date on this area of her work.
